Johor Jaya Carnival to be included in state tourism calendar
JOHOR BARU: The state government has included the Johor Jaya Carnival, held in conjunction with Chinese New Year, as one of the events in the state tourism calendar.
State Women Development and Tourism Committee chairman Liow Cai Tung said the carnival, which is an expansion of the Johor Jaya Bazaar that has been organised in Taman Johor Jaya for more than 10 years, ccould be used to promote Johor as a tourism destination.
“The carnival will showcase the uniqueness of Malaysia as a country where people of different races and religions live together harmoniously and celebrate the various festivals together.
“The carnival has received good response from the people, with some coming from Singapore to shop here. It has also contributed to the local economy ,” said Liow.
She was speaking to the media after visiting the carnival site. Also present was Tourism Johor director Abdul Malik Ismail.
Liow said the carnival, which will be held from Jan 21 until Feb 3 along Jalan Dedap 14 in Taman Johor Jaya, features 69 stalls selling festive items and food.
“There will also be various performances and a talk on feng shui by Master Sandy Paw. There will also be a lucky draw and quiz with interesting prizes,” said Liow.
She said the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar will grace the opening of the carnival on Jan 25 at 7.30 pm.
“We are grateful to His Majesty for agreeing to open the carnival. I would like to invite everyone, especially those around Johor Baru, to come to the carnival,” said Liow.
